In Spring 2017, South Wales Equality Group hosted its first ever dual-location event, with election candidates from all contituencies of Swansea and Newport discussing how they would tackle inequality if they were to be elected. Both events were very well attended, with representatives from numerous parties, including:
Newport – Pippa Bartolotti (Wales Green Party); Saleh Baqi (Welsh Conservatives); Phil Saunders (Welsh Labour); Kevin Whitehead (Newport Independents); Cameron Wixcey (Plaid Cymru).
Swansea – Tonia Antoniazzi (Welsh Labour); Brian Johnson (Socialist Party); Cliff Johnson (UKIP); Craig Lawton (Welsh Conservatives); Mike O’Carroll (Welsh Liberal Democrats); Harri Roberts (Plaid Cymru); Mike Whittall (Wales Green Party).
Audience participation was excellent, with numerous detailed questions being asked of the candidates.
The events were covered by major local media, including the Evening Post/Wales Online (Swansea) and the Argus (Newport).
